Rocky or Rose. Jahyi or June. Annika Lui is part of a collection of names given and chosen.
I’m a Chinese woman born in Canada who’s a non-denominational Christian. I’m an illustrator and creative writer who thinks I’m a living paradox that exists in the space that is Tkaronto and Markham, Ontario. In my dilemma of figuring out how to share who I am, I’m looking to tell who other people are. Whether it be their triumphs, dreams, dilemmas, and everything in between.
I create stories through writing, mixed media textural scans, and digital painting in Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint. These works seek to engage with vibrancy and through contextualization conducted with research. I hope that what I create will bring to light people who are as passionate as me in a world that needs passion.
What I do...
My creation process involves a focus on extensive research that covers the past, present, and future understandings of the content I'm creating. Whether it be a character profile, a concept setting, or a connection with people's stories. I'm particularly fond of capturing the emotional narrative of social interaction and cultural impact.

After extensive research, I provide rough sketches, finished sketches, and concept pieces before the finished work. This process is extensive and I appreciate working closely with the work and client.

The mediums I utilized are a combination of traditional and digital. With both experimental illustration and creative writing techniques. I often utilize watercolour mark-making techniques alongside other mixed media elements and then combine them with digital painting in Photoshop. I can also turn these illustrations into illustrations with animated elements or special effects in After Effects.

The final product will be made to the liking of myself or my client. I'm able to adapt to the file requirements or deliverables as I'm well versed in marketing presentation from my four years of social media marketing experience.
