The Crystal Astronaut | Character & Setting Design
For this project, I proposed exploring what it would be like to tell an illustrative story for children on the immigrant experience in a diaspora. It was to be done in a decolonized manner and embrace teaching children how to form an identity within a diaspora through the portal-quest fantasy genre.
This proposal evolved into the sci-fi portal-quest fantasy story summarized below. Its focus is still on teaching children how to form identity when displaced but more specifically within the
Palestinian diaspora.
Rediscovering Red | Character & Setting Design
This project sought to reimagine the classic fairytale of "Red Riding Hood" as a coming-of-age story for Chinese Canadians growing up in a post-2020 world with increased modern Asian & Pacific Islander racism.
This story could be viewed as an animated short film or a point-and-click video game. It would follow the narrative of Little Red going on an errand for her grandma to allow her grandma to rest from an illness. On her journey to the store, she discovers demon-possessed individuals but is guided by the Guardian to get home safely.
