Fake Body

Fake Body is an artwork focused on a core part of my identity. Religion, faith, or spirituality has been used to enforce caste throughout history. Personally, the “body of Christ” has become a place of misinformed hierarchy, institutionalization, and nationalism. To break away from caste would require a future of radical communities for Christ’s Care.

Yet, it has become a dominating chokehold in society today

We’ve made it all the worse, trying to use it as an excuse

Too busy telling the world what we hate, and they quickly forget why He came

Desperately, we’re trying to wash away the individualized sins

Yet, when we separate the faith from white Christian nationalism or culture

Suddenly, there’s clarity that the early church didn’t leave what it started. No fear

It was a symbol of aid in the civil rights movement

It is a symbol to this day across the globe when there’s no hate

A banner to gather under because of the separation that’s left the church and into the world

So, what will it be? Christ or the church.

The Process...
